- New Systems Engineering -(Nov, 2006 – Columbus, GA) Columbus, GA-based Kysor//Warren, already
known for providing food retailers with reliable refrigeration equipment, and their Alliance Partners Emerson Climate Technologies and Heatcraft, introduces their newest step in supermarket refrigeration. The Distributed Scroll Pack (DSP) is a lightweight parallel compressor system featuring Emerson’s Copeland Scroll Digital™ compressor for unequaled load matching capability and Heatcraft’s FloatingTube™ coil virtually eliminating the possibility of tube sheet leaks.
Background
Throughout the history of supermarket refrigeration there have been some common goals. Foremost among those are “the preservation, preparation and presentation of food at safe temperatures”, quickly followed by “and do so at a reasonable cost”. At first there was ice and then single compressor conventional” units were widely used. Now parallel systems are almost exclusively used. Why? The parallel compressor rack system has inherent advantages over conventional units. Most significant is the ability to vary the capacity available to meet the refrigeration load by varying the combination of compressors that are on in response to suction pressure. This ability leads to a more stable temperature in the display case or room. And does so at a reduced power consumption compared to conventional systems. Many techniques have been employed to enhance the operation of the parallel rack and its ability to match a load at favorable power consumption. Among these are uneven compressors, unloaders and inverters. Each of these works with varying success at maintaining suction pressure within reasonable limits and at a first cost anywhere from nominal to very expensive.
Digital – The Next Step In Load Matching
Over the past several years Emerson’s Copeland Scroll Digital™ has been used successfully worldwide in many single compressor applications including commercial air-conditioning, refrigerated transport, air dryers and convenience stores. Now Kysor//Warren is making this technology available for refrigeration parallel compressor applications.
Features
The DSP is very flexible in several areas. There is one cabinet size in which 2 or 3 compressors can be added. There are thousands of possible combinations with 16 pre-engineered models, which currently include 5 low and 11 medium temperature.
- Multiple smaller units versus one large unit
- Significantly reducing piping runs, hangers and insulation.
- Located close to targeted loads
- Less impact on roof cost than machine houses or other large central systems
- Reduced refrigerant quantity (by up to 70%)
- Air cooled condensers with FloatingTube™ coil are integral component – Factory pre-piped and wired
- Reduced installation time
- Lower refrigerant pressure loss
- Faster startup with many small systems compared to fewer large systems
Environmental Friendly
The DSP reduces TEWI (Total Equivalent Warming Impact) by the combined effect of reducing refrigerant release (leaks) and reducing energy consumption (improved efficiency).
